A beautiful Autumn day for our 7.5 mile walk in Salem, near Llandeilo, attracted many walkers including new ones. After a welcoming chat our walk leader explained her unusual plan to deal with a very muddy patch in a distant field – using bundles of hay as stepping stones. So, several of us carried hay across fields and stiles, dumping them when we reached the deep mud at a field edge. Yes, the plan worked!
We strolled through farmland with lovely views of the Carmarthen Fans and paused to admire the historic Taliaris mansion, part of the old Peel estate. A climb up through woodland got our hearts pumping, while a stretch along the River Dulais was calm and refreshing. Someone counted a total of 13 stiles!
Returning to our start point, we were welcomed into the leader’s home for a wonderful afternoon tea with home-baked cakes. A quick whip-round gave a healthy donation to the Lluest Horse and Pony Trust. What a super way to end a lovely walk!
